Religion over the years has majored on the subject of sin-consciousness.  The moment something goes wrong, guilt trips are empowered.  Simon’s response is surprising after he’d witnessed the teaching and ministry of Jesus… and then landed a catch that hePeterJesus could not claim any credit for!

“Depart from me Lord, for I am a sinful man.” 

When he felt pressed to give an account for the previous night’s toil with no success, he apparently felt a lot more familiar and comfortable with his own sinfulness!  Karma makes so much sense to a religion that makes its money out of paying and returning customers!

All In...


Without a breath of hesitation, God put all chips in.

He knew exactly what He’d have to do to win.
Throw it all in.  Nothing held back.
It would cost Him everything.
The winning pot was so poor, so fragile yet somehow so alluring that He couldn’t resist going all in.
It was the likes of me.  I am the prize.  I was His jackpot.

He saw all and embraced me anyway in my condition: Loser.  Reject.  Rebel.  Stained.
He exposed Himself to the very worst possible.
He was glad to do the unspeakable.
He offers me the whole kit and kaboodle as a freebie.  No down payment. No coupon necessary.  No out clause.  No shipping & handling.  No small print.  Just free.
Don’t mess with me!  In fact get your finger out of my face!
He did 2 amazing things for me.
He always sticks up for me.
A wedge can’t come in.  No matter what.
Nothing can wiggle its way in.  Not trouble of any kind.  No news.  No headline.  No report.  Not super hard times.  Not hatred for others.  Or others hating me.  Not hunger or homelessness.  Not bullying threats.  Not backstabbing or beheading…. not even the worst sin you can think of. Not one thing can separate me from His love.  He won me fair and square.
In fact, these troubling things do not even faze me.
Ho hum.
For I know Jesus loves me.
He has convinced me that nothing can take that away.
Nothing.
No one alive.
Nobody dead.
No angel.
No demon.
Nothing that happens today.
Nothing that could happen tomorrow.
Nothing high or low.
Nothing I can think of.
Not something I can’t even imagine or even the unthinkable.
Absolutely nothing.  No thing.
It’s impossible for anyone or anything to squeeze their way between me and God’s love.
Because that’s just who He is.
And that’s just how much He loves me.
You too.

No, I’m not crazy or delusional.  That was Romans 8 “cliff note version” and the following is the same passage in The Message.  Take heart, family of God.  We win!

“If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us?  And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen?  Who would dare even to point a finger?  The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us.  Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us?  There is no way!  Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture:
They kill us in cold blood because they hate you.
We’re sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one.
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.”

Quote: Kept In All Your Ways By God’s Angels

For several years I have explored how we can interact with angels… just one of Heaven’s resources “to those who inherit salvation” – us.  I posted a short Voyage of Life - youth2 - Thomas Cole - 1824blog on this topic here.  In fact, a few years ago, I was in a ‘prophetic room’ setting when two people prophesied over me that I had angels all around me that I was releasing everywhere I went.  I had never heard of such a thing before, but it said exactly what I had been practicing.  And other ‘strange’ happenings have given me considerable confidence that Heaven is indeed pleased to have us interacting with and applauding these ministers sent from the Throne.

The accompanying picture has inspired me for many years.  It’s one of a series of pictures called ‘Voyage of Life’ by Thomas Cole.  In it I see the ‘send off’ by the Angel of the Lord, but the ‘ship’ that bears one along is made up of angelic ministers commissioned to take us to our desire goal.

For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.  – Ps 91:11-12

You are about to step onto the road when something pulls you back just in time to avoid being hit by a speeding car.  You are shocked.  When you come to your senses, you ask yourself, “Could it be that an angel just saved me from a fatal accident?”

I believe that angels walk with us.  The verse tells us that God has given His angels charge over us to keep us in all our ways.  And in their hands they will bear us up, so that not even a stone will trip us up.

But we may not know it when we encounter an angel. (Hebrews 13:2)  This was probably the case with a couple in our church who were holidaying at a beach resort on Penang Island when a tsunami struck at about 12.30 pm on 26 December 2004.

It was slightly past 11 am when the wife suddenly had a craving for food from the mainland.  The couple decided to check out earlier, so that they could reach the mainland in time for lunch.  While loading their luggage into their car at the hotel driveway, a man impatiently motioned to them to hurry up and get moving.

Annoyed by his impatience, they quickly loaded their stuff and drove off.  The minute they reached the mainland, they heard that a tsunami had struck Penang Island at the same beach where they were just a while ago.  While thanking God for their narrow escape, it suddenly dawned on them that the impatient man could have been an angel charged by God to hurry them off!

God tells us that we have an innumerable company of angels. (Hebrews 12:22)  And He has given them charge over us to protect us from accidents, natural disasters, terrorist bombings and other dangers.  So don’t fear these things and lock yourself at home.  Go for that holiday!  Go for that lunch appointment!  Believe that God loves you, and thank Him for His angels who walk with you and watch over you!
