“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever” is recorded in John 14. Of course Jesus is talking about Holy Spirit, aka: My Helper. Don’t you just love that? Jesus totally gets just how much we need help. He also understands that we need so much help, that it is pointless for Holy Spirit to come-and-go as often as we cry out for help. Nope. Jesus brilliantly cuts to the chase and says, “and by the way, He is just going to remain with you forever, simply because you will need Him in your very next breath and again the one after that.” Wahoo! A Helper who remains. Forever.
Jesus is our Helper too. “Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God, let’s not let it slip through our fingers. We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let’s walk right up to him and get what He is so ready to give. “Take the mercy, and accept the help” is recorded in Hebrews 4. I love those instructions:
1. Walk right up to Him.
2. Get what He is so ready to give.
3. Take the mercy.
4. Accept the help.
Of course, the hard part for us is to halt. We’ve been taught that it is noble to bail ourselves out of our own messes. But along comes Jesus in His usual upside-down kingdom principles and says “Come to Me. Holy Spirit will even help you do these 4 easy steps.”
But what about the Father? Is He also eager to help you in your hour of need? “If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and you won’t be condescended to when you ask for it.” James 1 You just have to love that. I can solicit Father’s help when I don’t know what I’m doing! 1 Peter also says, “You call out to God for help and he helps—he’s a good Father that way.” You’ll never hear the Lord say something like: “You again? I just helped you out yesterday… or… I already bailed you out 17 times… or… When are you ever going to learn?” or… anything else condescending. Just love and patience and eagerness to help you. Again.
So let Him do what He loves doing best. Walk right up to Him. Let Him give you what He is so willing and ready to give. Take the mercy you need. Take the help you are so desperate for. Jehovah-Helper would so love to help you out today.

If you are in the west-central Chicago-land area on Sunday evenings I highly recommend the HUB experience. Nancy is a long time great friend of our family. She and Hank her husband, and the HUB team love the Presence. In fact, they are gluttons for His Presence. We LOVE that about them! And I love her writings. They are so fresh, alive and infectious because she cultivates a vibrant and childlike relationship with her Father. Click here for more about Chicago HUB. – MLH
