Quote: Living by Grace…

3 May

Religion prods the flesh to either try harder with perfectionist flesh or give up and resort to immorality.  It’s only when we see our union with Jesus Christ that we understand that there is a third way to live.  It’s not by trying harder, and it’s not by giving in to immorality.  It’s a life motivated by the freedom of grace that releases God’s Spirit to be all we need in every moment.

Quote: What if God doesn’t seem to be supporting my ministry?

3 May

“But we leaders need to ask ourselves a few questions.  First, do we believe our all-powerful God is able to secure financial support for something he wants to move forward?  I think most of  us would agree the answer to this one is yes.  Now, here’s a harder question: If the funds are not coming in, is God really at work there? In some cases, the answer might be yes….  Sadly, though, in some cases the answer to that question might actually be no–even for a ministry dear to our hearts that seems to be meeting a need.  So if that’s the case, then the last question to ask is this: Do we really want to be pushing a ministry that God does not appear to be motivating people to support?”

Dear Friends,

Coming very soon: Sarah & Luke’s wedding – Saturday, April 20, 2013
Our whole family and many friends will convene in Redding to help Sarah and Luke ‘tie the knot’ of marriage.  The mothers are all a-dither with rehearsal and reception meal preparations while the dads are preparing to jointly officiate the wedding.  The siblings and a few close friends will stand alongside the couple to lend all the support they can to get the job done in fine style.  It’ll be an extravaganza of excitement and celebration.  We’ll appreciate your cheers, prayers and support

John & Cheryl have officially announced that grandbaby #3 is on the way!
You know what this grandma and grandpa think about that!   Yay!!!

Some books to inspire
I just finished reading a book entitled, God Without Religion by Andrew Farley.  I highly recommend it.  Like a great movie, I cried when I finished it, because I didn’t want it to end. The writer unveils God’s goodness and Grace so well that it makes you fall in love again, with our wonderful Lord.  I have never been so pleased to have so many of my ‘sacred cow’ concepts of God and concepts of myself slain by a better view of God.  I love finding out that I’ve believed wrong IF I have confidence that my new belief is an upgraded belief.  Thank you Lord for heart illumination.  Prepare to fall in love with Father… and Jesus… and even yourself… more than ever before. God is SO much better than we thought!

Another book that has recently made me fall more in love with Jesus is Extra Virgin Grace by Ryan Rufus.  The book starts out by asking what the ‘big sin’ was that Adam and Eve committed that got them excommunicated from the Garden and visited the consequences of their sin on the rest of humanity.  It must have been a really big one.  Was it murder, adultery, lying, etc… you know, the ‘cardinal’ sins?  No!  It was that they were trying to be like God.  They thought that if they ate of the forbidden tree they could be like God.  But Satan had duped them… just like he tries on us.  He tries to makes us jump through hoops to be more like God, so God will like us better.  Some of our preachers even advise us along these lines.  Hummm.  Didn’t work out very well for Adam and Eve… why do we try to do the same?  The fact is that Adam and Eve were already like God… remember, they were “made in the image of God”.  And as saints, WE are like God, I Jn 4:17 “we are as He is in this world”; II Cor 5:21  “we are the righteousness of God in Christ”.  So, let’s debunk the devil’s lies and “enter into rest” in the finished work of Jesus on the cross.  Our salvation and right standing with God can be simply stated, “It’s Jesus plus NOTHING!”

Grace inspirations
It’s obvious that we have entered an era where a better understanding of Grace is unfolding exponentially. We’re not talking about a hedonistic or carnal view of Grace.  Rather it’s a view where the First Commandment is still first, only now it is with uncoerced passion and delightful freedom.  Who could have expected that loving God would be so rewarding and consuming as when we find that God really loves us, just because He loves us.  The revelation of true Grace causes our hearts to voluntarily and eagerly reciprocate… as well as we are able… the lavish love of a love struck God.  Could God really be this good?

Contrary to what some believe, this wonderful Grace message does NOT give a license to sin more.  Personally, I don’t know of a single person in the world who believes they have a license to sin when they understand Grace better.  It’s just the opposite.  And I say understand Grace better, because I fully believe that the unfolding and inexhaustible Goodness and Grace of God will never cease to amaze us throughout time and eternity.  Over the last 5 – 8 years, the Grace message has made my personal devotion to God more real, more free, more vibrant and more infectious than at any other time in my life.  I feel more confident in my relationship to God, more alive to Him, more aware of His pleasure, more empassioned in what I’m doing and more gripped with where I’m headed.

The old system wore me out.  It was inevitable that it would wear us out… because even though we believed in Jesus, we added a good dose of the Law just to make us feel better about ourselves. But thank God, now we’re breaking free from the ‘Jesus plus some works’ religion.  A whole generation is breaking free.  How would our world change if God’s beleaguered saints broke free from religion, from our beggarly self-talk and beggarly prayers and from trying to get good enough to be loved by God… AND truly saw themselves as fully righteous, fully loved, highly favored, fully prepared, authorized and empowered to be kings over the principalities and nations of this earth.  Whoa… if we’re not ‘careful’ we could get happy and excited about His Kingdom coming on earth as it is in Heaven.  Jesus, may it be unto us according to Your word. Amen!

Try this thought ‘provoker’:

How did Jesus become sin at the cross?
Did He have to commit sin to become sin?  No
He received our sin and became sin?
He was made to be sin without committing ANY sin!

How do we become righteous through the Gospel?
Do we commit righteous works to become righteousness?  No
We receive Jesus’ righteousness and become righteous
We were made righteous with zero works!

Supporting verses:

II Cor 5:21 – “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Eph 2:8 – “For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God–not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Rms 3:24 – “and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”
Rms 9:16 – “It does not, therefore, depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.”

Dual Realities of the Believer – 80 minutes long   For too long our enemy has tried to diminish God in our eyes… and tried to diminish us in our own eyes.  We bought into the enemy’s ‘creation’ of a lesser God.  And we bought into a lesser ‘us’.  But it was a lie!  Now, through the powerful revelation of Grace, we’re discovering that God is so much better than we thought… and WE are so much more than we thought.  I am righteous!  I am a co-heir with Jesus!  And whatever is true of Him is true of me!  So if we’re truly seated in the Heavenlies with Jesus then we must not act like beggars any longer.  We’re ‘kings’!  We must adopt a ‘new mind'(set) and learn a new vocabulary that is fitting for kings.  When we really discover who we are and where we’re seated, this radical revelation will change everything we do, even the way we pray.  This is revolutionary.   Shortened version handout    Full preaching notes

Your prayers, love and care are ALWAYS greatly appreciated!  Thank you so very much!
